Customer Rating: Summary: Delivered with that sensational style that is without a doubt E. Lynn Harris' exclusive signature! Comment: "Although its been four years since E. Lynn Harris released his last book it is apparent that this dynamic story teller has written another best seller in I Say A Little Prayer. This novel is delivered with that sensational style that is without a doubt E. Lynn Harris' exclusive signature."
"This exhilarating story is based around Chauncey Greer who is the owner of Cute Boy Card Company in Atlanta. He is attractive, has a great social life, lives in a luxurious apartment and is by no means lonely for companionship. After spending the night with a brother that is on the down low that turns into the ultimate bad date, he attends Abundant Joy Baptist Church the very next morning. Pastor Kenneth Davis delivers a message that touches Chauncey and urges him to reconsider pursuing the singing career that he gave up twenty years ago. This decision will cause him to revisit the painful memories about the heartache he endured after the relationship with his first love ended."
"Chauncey was in the successful singing group Reunion. He and his best friend D started the group along with two other members Barron and Darron. Eventually Chauncey and D. became intimately involved but agreed to keep their relationship a secret. Two years later, their relationship ended on a sour note resulting in Chauncey being kicked out of the boy band to prevent a scandal."
"Chauncey moves on with his life without looking back, that is until he decides to reestablish his singing career. His first performance is at his church Abundant Joy. His performance is so well received that Pastor Kenneth invites him to sing at an upcoming revival. Bishop Damien Upchurch will be the guest speaker at the revival. Unbeknownst to Chauncey this is his old friend D, who has also moved on with his life in a totally different direction. Bishop Upchurch is currently seeking a seat in the Senate with the help of his wife Grayson, utilizing a platform against homosexuality."
"Chauncey discovers who Bishop Upchurch is and then must decide if he wants revenge or if he can forgive the man who broke his heart."
"Several old characters from previous books are mentioned among a host of new characters that are interesting and witty. I Say A Little Prayer is told with humor and candor, seasoned with just the right amount of unexpected twists and turns. Readers will simply be unable to put this book down."
Customer Rating: Summary: Prayer Works Comment: As usual, E has provided his fans, both new and old, with another novel that is sure to stay on the Top for a long time to come. I Say a Little Prayer is no different than E's previous novels when it comes to creating strong characters and an excellent supporting cast. (I"m not going into the mechanics of writing an award winning novel cause I am just a novice in that respect, but I know what i like and I don't)
The main character Chanancy is well defined and provides the novel with it's central plot and sets the tone for the majority of the books major story line. But it is also the help of strong supporting characters who also have their own back stories that make this novel work. Like his past novels, E does not shy away from topics that affect not only the black Gay/Lesbian population but society in general. This time taking a deep look at the prejudices at come along with the black church and its views on homosexuality. The reader can always relate to the character's and some of the challanges they face. I often find myself thinking of some of the crazy things I have done all in the name of Love. The reader can not help but to find a hint of his/herself in each turning page.
Though I like the intro of new characters (Chanancy, Skylar, Celia) I am a big fan of the Raymond/Basil storyline so I was grinning from ear to ear when Basil showed up. I won't give any plotline material away but I was glad to hear that he is still with Raymond. (I get a little like Annie in the movie Misery when I think about E even thinking about breaking these two apart - I may get to breaking some ankles ;) But I am happy to say they are still strong as ever. I can not wait until their own story is reintroduced.
I almost rolled off my bed when Yancy B. showed up in the book. She is such a hoot if not psychotic!! I was looking for Ava her mom to show up at anytime and turn the place out. It was good to reconnect with some of the characters from the past....even if it was brief.....
Chauncey's main sidekick is Skylar....he gives excellent comic relief to a plot that could have turned out preachy or over cooked. But E the master knows just how to balance the two. I must warn you The novel is a short read But part of it is that it is a damn good book I read it in a day and was ready for more when i turned the last page. Those of you who are familiar with the author know that is is hard to critique such an excellent and talented person.
I had the honors of meeting E at a book signing in Philly when his novel "If this World was Mine" which is a must read by the way, was released. He is just as gracious in person as he is in print. And very easy on the eyes ;) I was able to get my book signed by him and I will always cherish it. Way to go E......you make your fam proud. I give it a 4 for length (a little over 300pg) not dept. (the story is strong.
Customer Rating: Summary: E. Lynn, What Happened to your writing style? Comment: I have ALL of E. Lynn Harris' books and this is the WORST one ever. He flaunted the homosexual lifestyle of his main character in such a way that this book should have NOT been sold in ANY decent book store.
He strayed far away from his usual writing style. He should have written this for a trash magazine.
I doubt if I purchase any more of his books. This was a waste of my money and time reading. I am really disappointed in him. I thought he had more class than that!
Please don't waste your money on this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not as erotic as previous novels but... Comment: This book didn't seem to have the "umph" that the other E. Lynn books had but I still enjoyed it. Nice to see him bring in some of our favorite characters (Basil, Raymond, Yancy...)even with their appearances being so brief. Another good read!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Comment: Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Love the book it is a page turner until the last page. E. Lynn Harris has done it again.

Bestselling author E. Lynn Harris is back with another sexy, shocking, and immensely satisfying novel that explores some of today’s toughest and most timely issues.
Chauncey Greer is the owner of Cute Boy Card Company, a thriving company in Atlanta. As a teenager, he was a member of a popular boy band, but left in disgrace when word got out that he and his bandmate D were more than good friends. Chauncey is a free spirit, on the brink of forty with a body admired by both men and women. Not into being categorized, Chauncey’s been known to hook up with men and women, but now in the age of the “down low,” he’s found that women ask too many questions, so he’s just focusing on the fellas.
After one too many bad dates, Chauncey finds himself in church, where the minister’s message inspires him to follow his dream of a singing career once again. Although he’s lost touch with D, as he starts writing songs his thoughts inevitably turn to his former lover. Chauncey’s powerful performance at the church earns him a standing ovation and an invitation to participate in an upcoming revival. But Chauncey soon discovers that an ambitious fundamentalist preacher plans to use the revival to speak out against gays and gay marriage. Feeling angry and betrayed, Chauncey and other gay members of the church decide to take a stand against the church’s homophobia by staging a “Day of Absence” when all of the gay members and their friends and family stay home. Everything is going as planned... until D appears on the scene and Chauncey has to confront his past and make some hard decisions about his future.
I Say A Little Prayer is filled with the delicious plot twists, humor, compassion, and up-to-the-minute controversy fans expect from their beloved “E. Lynn.” Harris has returned with another gem of a novel that will rocket to the top of bestseller lists nationwide.
