Summary: True Forgiveness
Comment: This book is an incredible testament of true forgiveness.

If all of Rwanda could forgive like Immaculee, their country would be a much better place for all.

Very very powerful story.........I love it!

Summary: An Incredible Story of Courage and Faith
Comment: I was first introduced to Immaculee Ilibagiza while viewing Wayne Dyer's PBS program "The Power of Intention". From that moment in that program, I was gripped with the feeling that I needed to know more about this woman and her story. I purchased "Left To Tell : Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust" and waited impatiently to get the story. I could not believe the intense 'compulsion' to know this woman's story.

When I received the book, instantly I was enthralled and engrossed by her story. The first few pages set the tone of the story, and left me stirred with many emotions yet I couldn't put the book down.

Immaculee shares that the book is not one that shares the history of Rwanda and the previous situations. She informs us that this is her story and her experience.

The story is almost too unbelievable to read. That someone who is experiencing 'hell on earth' could continue to breathe the words of God and strengthen her faith where there was little hope of survival and as she is witnessing the slaughter of her most precious gifts: her friends and family.

Immaculee describes in such detail the feeling of a looming, most tortuous death that I could feel the slashing of the machete in my flesh.

This story reminds us that we will continue to have genocide and holocausts throughout our lifetimes. As the other reviewers share, this is a quick read. Be prepared to be affected. Be prepared to want to know more.

Summary: Five stars isn't enough
Comment: This book deserves more than 5 stars. I can't put into enough words on how incredible this book is. I'm not big on reading biographies, but this one I couldn't help but read. This book is so inspirational, and so beautifully written I couldn't put it down. Immaculee's story is amazing. Please, please, please add this book to your collection. I swear to you that you won't be able to put it down.

Summary: Read this book!
Comment: There are no words I can use to adequately describe this book or the experience of reading it--so I will not even try! I cannot recommend it highly enough! Like the other reviewer, I only give it five stars because there is not a higher rating available. I am going to give this book as a gift to everyone I can!

Wow!

Summary: One of the Best Books I Have Ever Read!
Comment: An extraordinarily readable account of an incomprehensible ordeal. Compelling, riveting, horrifying, uplifting and so very inspiring. Thanks to Immaculee and Steve Erwin for sharing this story with the world - this reader is very grateful that you were Left to Tell.

Editorial Reviews:

Immaculee Ilibagiza grew up in a country she loved, surrounded by a family she cherished. But in 1994 her idyllic world was ripped apart as Rwanda descended into a bloody genocide. Immaculee’s family was brutally murdered during a killing spree that lasted three months and claimed the lives of nearly a million Rwandans.
Incredibly, Immaculee survived the slaughter. For 91 days, she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor while hundreds of machete-wielding killers hunted for them.
It was during those endless hours of unspeakable terror that Immaculee discovered the power of prayer, eventually shedding her fear of death and forging a profound and lasting relationship with God. She emerged from her bathroom hideout having discovered the meaning of truly unconditional love—a love so strong she was able seek out and forgive her family’s killers.
The triumphant story of this remarkable young woman’s journey through the darkness of genocide will inspire anyone whose life has been touched by fear, suffering, and loss.
This is Immaculee’s first book.
