This compilation provides quite a bit of music. The recording is good. Definitely a good value.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bar None the Best Value in Guitar CDs. Comment: Manuel Barrueco is a refined guitarist of the highest caliber. His precision and execution are remarkable. The CD is a treasure trove of some of the guitar's most importnat repertory staples. And best of all, the price is CHEAP!
Don't hesitate. Add this one to the shopping cart immediately.
Customer Rating: Summary: nothing better than this Comment: I have had this CD (or parts of it from earlier records) for quiet a while. As a guitar lover and record collector, I judge these performances as the alpha and omega of guitaristic art. They are a world of their own, both in terms of interpretation and instrumental technique.
These recordings are from Manuel's earlier years as a performer. I find him better than on his more recent recordings, where he seems to have lost some youthful enthousiasm.
If you are interested in guitar music, not just the candelight type but prime art, this is the CD that will change your perspectives for ever.
Customer Rating: Summary: Must have Comment: Sensitive performances of Granados and Albeniz pieces, absolutely flawless and balanced melodies and harmonies. Same for Villa Lobos Etudes: plays as if they were the easiest pieces ever written. Very well recorded, as well.

Manuel Barrueco is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. Listen to his own arrangement of Albeniz's Suite Española and you'll have trouble believing it's only two hands on one guitar. But Barrueco doesn't use his technique to show off. He's a solid musician, as expressive in Bach as in Villa- Lobos. He also makes transcriptions that respect the origins of the music. This is a wide-ranging guitar collection, but all the music is worth hearing, especially in performances like these. The disc is one of the best bargains among all guitar recordings, and Vox's recordings still sound like a guitar. --Leslie Gerber
