Customer Rating: Summary: Love the Littermaid Comment: I find it works best plugged into he wall with a power cord. I know someone whom used batteries and their motor died. The cat loves having a clean litter box all the time. I love the convenience of just throwing out the waste receptacle. When using the carbon filters, there is no smell at all in the house. I will never be without one of these. I have had mine for 3 1/2 years and never had a problem. I will purchase one for anyone in my family whom gets a cat.
Customer Rating: Summary: scoop litter, or clean the rake? Comment: i have 3 litter maid litter boxes, they are all unplugged sitting in my basement. the cost of the boxes was not worth cleaning the rake when the feces got stuck in it, which was all the time. the rake was always stuck in the middle, and my cats were going on the floor. it was the worst investment ever, and i am sorry i bought three at one time, i will never make that mistake again. it is a great idea, but it was easier just to scoop the litter the old fashioned way than to clean the forks of the rake. at least with the old sifter scooper, there was no scraping raw feces. i hated the boxes and would gladly give them away!!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great when it works Comment: I owned one of these for two years and loved it. It was noisy, yes, but well worth it to save myself the daily scooping (and to provide a cleaner environment for my two cats). Two years to the day after I purchased my first Littermaid the motor died. I re-ordered immediately. My second Littermaid was defective; the motor stopped working for no reason after only a few days of use. I got a replacement from Amazon, but its motor died after a few weeks. Amazon won't send any more replacements, so I either have to order from elsewhere or try a different box. Bummer!
Customer Rating: Summary: Works great! Comment: We have been using this box for about a year and a half and have had no problems. Both our cats adjusted well with no accidents. Just a helpful hint - we use "liners" in the plastic bins. Every few days, we just toss the liner and replace with a fresh one allowing us to reuse the bin.
Customer Rating: Summary: 3 returns to get one that ALMOST works Comment: My in-laws had a bad experience trying to get one that worked properly. For this price it should WORK and sing and dance too.
OLDER CATS FEAR this box due to NOISE when it "cleans"~ therefore avoiding the BOX... Yep, you guessed it. Floor clean up time. SAVE YOUR MONEY, indoor cats MEANS cleaning kitty litter.

Ideal for a household with a large cat or more than one cat, this big, self-cleaning litter box eliminates most odors while keeping the litter pleasingly fresh for tabby. It's ingenious in design: a cat entering the box triggers a sensor; the sensor sets a timer that counts off 10 minutes; then a rake runs through the litter, scooping out clumps and depositing them in a plastic container at the box's end; the container is automatically sealed until the next cat visit, when the raking cycle opens the container for another deposit. (Twelve reusable, disposable containers are included, each 13 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches deep.) The litter box can be plugged into a wall socket (AC adapter included) or operated on eight D-cell batteries (not included). It comes with a durable carpeted ramp that leads a cat into the box and cleans its paws on the way out. For safety, the rake stops and reverses at the slightest touch if an object gets in the way. If a cat re-enters the box before the initial 10 minutes have elapsed, the timer automatically resets. The litter box is made of hard plastic and measures 29 inches long, 8-7/8 inches high, and 16-3/4 inches wide. For proper operation, it requires premium, clumping litter but does not need as much as a nonautomated litter box of the same size. For cleaning, the litter tray can be detached. Instructions for acclimating a cat to the box are included. --Fred Brack
