Customer Rating: Summary: IT'S OKAY. Comment: Seventeen is an okay magazine. The real-life stories get on my nerves because they have nothing to do with issues many girls face. And also, I don't read stupid articles in Seventeen like "How to get a boyfriend in 10 days". The FASHION? Don't even get me started. The fashion is horrendously horrible. Atoosa has no fashion sense at ALL. They show all this mainstream, ugly ABERCROMBIE (yuck) crap. If you want real fashion that celebrities and models wear, get Teen Vogue. Seventeen is kind of addicting though with the make-up tips, losing weight things and uhhh...yeahhh.
If you're going to give this review a bad rating because I dissed ABERCROMBIE, go ahead. I'll know that you're an Abercrombie worshipper who has no style or fashion sense.
Overall, Seventeen is okay for the makeup tips and beauty tips and how to look good(NOT including fashion) and the articles are pretty fun to read.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not appropriate for those with at least SOME morals Comment: I got this magazine for a year and a half before I had to quit my subscription recently. I liked all the fashion tips and articles on how to dress for your body size and style, and that is why I subscribed to begin with. But I was not expecting the bombardment of amoral opinions forced on me. (not to mention an overload of advertising- which you will get in most fashion magazines anyway, so that's not a complaint). Sure there was a few lines here and there that were nonbiased (telling the facts of STDs and such), but 90% of the articles on sex, were opinion and not fact. Girls today are having sex with anyone and getting hurt emotionally and physically because of magazines like Seventeen who say that sex is good if you're ready (What 15 year old girl is ready to have sex and get an STD or a baby?? Please.), and that condoms are 100% effective. They are not, but that's what most teen girls believe because of stupid magazines like this. They need to take advice from their parents and doctors, not magazine articles. I was disgusted at the opinions presented as truth to basically promote teen girls doing whatever they want without consequences.
Customer Rating: Summary: Finally, it's good! Comment: Seventeen was probably the most unappealing magazine to me when I was in middle school. I bought my first issue in July 2003 because they didn't have my beloved Cosmogirl at the airport. I don't know who the editor was back then, but thank goodness for Atoosa. She changed the magazine around.
Seventeen has nice clothing ads. Most of the clothes are affordable things which happen to have a universal appeal. Although sometimes the outfits featured are quite boring, there won't be something you don't like.
The makeup is alright too, nothing special except for the occasional bit.
The serious stories are great, nothing too overpowering, and plus there are warnings for graphic stories to keep your mind at peace.
For you occasional magazine readers, the best time to buy this magazine is for back-to-school.
Age reccomendation: 13-19 (seriously.)
Customer Rating: Summary: I thought it was good.... Comment: When I first started reading this magazine back in 2003 I thought "Oooh what a cool mag!!" But clearly I was totally wrong. Since 2003 Seventeen has changed from a girly sophisticated mag appealing to girls just barely in their teens to to a cheap, overated, cliche`, piece of crap!!! I'd like to know what happened!!!!! It's super boring now. It has no style. All the sections are about health garbage & boring global trash. HELLO? What about the stars, movies,.. the music section sucks! Nothing is good anymore! If you disagree with me your probably just as boring as it yourself. I hate it and I DO NOT recomend this magazine. Don't read it!! You'll be wasting your time.
Customer Rating: Summary: The best Magazine ever Comment: I've gotten hooked on this magazine the minute I started to read it. It has a lot of great tips for girls, and style advice. Although some people think that this is just another 12-13 year old's magazine, it's not. It's for all ages. Even older people (not trying to be rude;) )!!! Lost's of the stuff about style, they try to make it for girls who can't afford that 200 dollar pair of designer jeans, or that 150 dollar top. They have just as good as priced stuff (and looks way better) than those totally outragiously expensive stores that nobody can really afford. I love the magazine, it's for everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY.

The perky authority on all things girl since 1944, Seventeen magazine still provides advice and encouragement to masses of young misses. Although the primary focus is fashion and famous folk, this teen zine is not mere eye candy. Mixed among the cutting-edge styles (and multitudinous ads) you'll find short but plentiful articles. Topics range in import: fluff stuff like "What Will You Wear Back to School?" and "The Ultimate Ponytail Guide" is balanced by heavier fodder, such as "No One Believes I Was Raped" and pieces on having a gay sibling and the dangers of binge drinking. Skewed largely toward a Caucasian teen audience, the magazine's coverage of beauty and relationship conundrums does offer nods to young women of color. The tone is resolutely positive, and amid all the talk of must-have hairdos and hottie alerts, the message is girl power in its most nonthreatening guise. --Brangien Davis
