Customer Rating: Summary: A great gift Comment: For the last three years I've bought my Dad a subscription to the economist for his birthday, it really has been a great present. My Dad, a keen businessman, really enjoys the magazine, he finds it informative and it keeps him up to date on global trends and local issues. I like it as it's a present Dad enjoys all year.
Customer Rating: Summary: The news magazine of the hour is not all it is cracked up to be Comment: The 'Economist'prides itself upon being an elite news magazine which provides more intellectually rich articles than other news magazines. Nonetheless I have often founds its 'global survey ' articles to be less than satisfying. A recent survey of the 'Evolution and Intelligent Design' controversy it seemed to me bogged down in speculative suggestions about various stages of the overall development of Life.
More fundamentally, it seems to me that 'The Economist' political slant is to the left. I have found that its articles on the Middle East and Israel have a naive over-reliance on Arab sources.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Great Weekly News Journal Comment: The Economist continues to be one of the most in-depth weekly news journals availalbe. It is an interesting blend of current events and insightful analysis of prevailing, and sometimes, not so obvious trends. If you enjoy a more detailed treatment of world events, the economy, and trends, it is highly recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Brits, the Brits Comment: The Economist would merit five stars for its comprehensive reporting on politics, economics, and cultural issues if it weren't so predictably anti-European Union. It revels in any missteps or problems that arise in the movement toward political and economic union among the members countries.
Perfidious Albion lives on in The Economist.
Customer Rating: Summary: the best all around periodical, period Comment: I have been a subscriber of the economist for 6 yrs or so. I would rate it the best newsmagazine in the world. While one shouldnt rely on only one periodical for their news or perspectives, I would always count on the economist to have the last word on most topics of the day. Plus, despite the proliferation of news on print and the electronic medium, the definition of "news" is a far cry from what it is or should be. The economist strips out the noise from the system and provides its reader in a concise manner what it feels is fit to be reviewed for the given week.
In short, a very satisfied reader.
