Summary: Question Before I Buy
Comment: What I wanna know is how quick does it take to set this up from start to ready to step on it. Remember, in a fire, there is precious little time to set it up.
Also, is it light enough for my seven year old to set it up by herself if heaven-forbid that becomes necessary? The chain ones are worthless. They are so heavy and get so tangled and are so hard to deploy, that unless you have it hanging outside 24/7/365 you will never get it set up in time during a fire. Keeping it unfurled at all times is impractical in this crime-ridden city.
The last reviewer's comments were utterly worthless. Because it's a knock-off that means it is not able to do the job? Even he admits that it looks better than the item it was intended to knock-off. I was expecting lawsuits based upon the ladders undependability or it being unsafe for use in a fire. Instead, the lack of noise in that direction seems to indicate that this is a good choice to make.
If you have an answer to the first questions I have posed, please leave a review with an answer. Thanks!

Summary: Emergency fire escape ladder
Comment: I had recently completed an addition to the attic at my home to a bedroom and needed a way to "get out" in case of emergency.
The Kidde fire escape ladder seemed to be the best choice for the money and Amazon had the best price by far. I received the product quickly and am very pleased with the ladder overall.
Other than being just a bit bulky to store, (considering the alternative if a fire were to break out!) the Kidde fire escape ladder is just the thing to give me peace of mind. It is sturdy and strong enough to support multiple people on the ladder at the same time if necessary.

Summary: Life Safety
Comment: As a firefighter, I strongly reccomend escape ladders to people who live on or above the second floor. If a fire starts at night on the first floor smoke detectors on the second or third floors may or may not activate and wake up building occupants before superheated gasses and fire make escape through the first floor an impossability. Buy whatever brand you want but make sure it's appropriate for your specific needs. Ensure if you live on the third or fourth floor you buy a ladder that long or longer. Take into consideration overhangs under windows that will effect the length of the ladder. Make sure escape ladder fits the window. Use only if all other exits are blocked. Practice opening the ladder and dropping it out the window, but not using it.
