Customer Rating: Summary: Nice mower, loses its charge quickly Comment: I have a small lot, 100 x 120 & this baby is down just as I finish my yard. The charging indicator has never worked. Doesn't do well in thick or wet grass. Besides that it does a good job. If you have a plush lawn or large lawn, look to another mower. I love the fact that it is electric, which means starting is easy. This mower is very quiet compared to a gas model.
Customer Rating: Summary: On our second one...after almost 8 years Comment: Our CMM1000 pooped out last weekend after we ran over a dirt mound and tripped the circuit breaker. While this has happened on several occasions before, this time the breaker reset itself (which it does automatically after 1 minute) but the mower would not start up. There's no manual way to reset the breaker, so I finally gave up and decided to send the unit away for repairs. We purchased this mower in 1998, and it has served flawlessly all this time, until now.
Despite having this breakdown, I decided to buy a new CMM1000 from Amazon immediately. My wife loves it, though I prefer to use the Honda, which I finally sold only a few months ago. So even if we can get the broken unit fixed at a reasonable cost, it's still worth salvaging and having as a back-up.
It's held up extremely well given the abuse we put it through.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good enough for a small lawn. Less noise and no exhast to breathe Comment: Good enough for a small lawn. Less noise and no exhast to breathe
Black & Decker CMM1000 19" was one of the ones recalled for their proclivity to catch on FIRE when charging...Black and Decker wants me to drive the mower over 100 miles to the closest service station and then leave it there for a time and then go back and fetch it... I have yet to get the recall work done.
I have owned my mower for 6 years and the batteries just died.
I got inexpensive 18AH replacements on an auction site for under $50 and did the installation myself in less than half an hour.
I use the mulching feature.
Mulching means No bagging and need for less fertilizer :)
I mow every week now in no time and I used to dread the cord of my previous electric mower.
Expensive purchase price... Batteries if purchased for the right price are a deal.
No other maintenance needed to date.
Customer Rating: Summary: Okay - but only if your lawn is totally flat Comment: Overall I found this mower disappointing. Nearly all the research I did focused on this mower's power and limitations of yard size, which were not very relevant to me. Unfortunately, there was little mention of how difficult this mower is on hills, and here in East Tennessee, that's a big problem. The first mower to arrive had the oft-mentioned-won't-stay-running problem with the power lever. (Even my UPS driver was familiar with it.) The replacement runs fine, but is far too heavy to push up even slight inclines. My house sits on a hill that slopes down to the street in front and on one side, so even when cutting across the slope (a necessity for safety, of course), going uphill is unavoidable, and this mower is simply much too heavy. I was disappointed, as the quietness and lack of engine smell are real pluses, but unless your lawn is flat as Bonneville, you will probably be disappointed also. BTW, I ended up purchasing a self-propelled Toro mower, and it is superb.
Customer Rating: Summary: 6 years, 0 maintenance Comment: I bought a CMM1000 in spring of 2000 and have used it for over 6 years now. The battery is finally getting weak, but that's the *only* maintence that I've had to do in 6 years. Other then that, it's been flawless--if the lawn needs cut, then I grab the mower and mow it. No gas can, no oil changes, no spark plugs. That's why I spent the extra cash for a rechargable mower in the first place, and I've been very happy with my purchase.
