Summary: Helps with other bitting bugs as well
Comment: I live on the Gulf coast and while the mosquitos are enough to keep you from spending much time outside, the yellow flies will make you refuse to leave the house at all. Everyday I would get at least 3 bites walking from my house to my car 20 feet away. After 2 days with the defender running, there was about 50 yellow flies and over 100 mosquitos in the net. It's been about 3 weeks now, and I'll come across 1 or 2 bitting bugs a day, and that's only if I spend half the day outside. We have lived here for about 5 years and this is the first time we have been able to get any use out of our yard. Last month I couldn't even cut the grass or hang laundry in shorts! I have read a bunch of reviews on here that say the defender only lasts 1 or 2 seasons, and if that turns out to be the case, I still think it's well worth the $300 every 1 or 2 years to be able to have full use of my yard!

Summary: Works wonders for me
Comment: I purchased mine at The Home Depot after having all of my questions answered by one of their associates. The unit has been up and running for 2 months and we've seen a huge difference. Mosquitos are not the real problem in our area of urban Atlanta, it's the no-see-ums. I clean the trap weekly and the carnage makes me smile. I bought the 1/2 acre unit (overkill for my lot) and have wiped out the mosquito/no-see-um popluation. Follow the directions (placement, cleaning, etc.) and I think you'll be happy with the results.

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!
Comment: A Mosquito Magnet will work beautifully FOR ONE YEAR ONLY!. I purchased the product and originally thought I made a great purchase based on the amount of bugs it began to catch. My happiness was short lived. I have followed the instructions to the letter - how to use it, how to store it, how to maintain it, etc. I took it out for the second year of use and the unit wouldn't start. I've called the company several times and been directed to try new propane tanks, new Co2 tubes, new quick clear tools, and new electrical cords and nothing has helped. I have probably spent close to the original cost of the item in materials since my purchase. The technical and customer service staffs are terrible. When I finally reached a person after making my way through lengthy automated attendants at two different Customer Service numbers in an attempt to return the power cord they told me I needed, the response was "We don't do returns" I couldn't believe that response. That is not what I call customer service. I had to speak to a supervisor and finally got her to credit my Visa for the cost of the cord. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

Summary: Mosquito Beware
Comment: I have nothing but positive things to say about my Defender. This is the second year I've used it and it gets better and better. Yes, it takes some time to really get rolling -- about 3 weeks -- but that was less than I'd been told by the sales gal at Home Depot.
This thing really draws in mosquitos in big numbers - it is about the only thing that attracts more than my nine-year old son, who for some reason, mosquitos cannot stay away from him. Well guess what? he no longer hibernates indoors in summer evenings and even with all the rain we have had in the Northeast, the Defender keeps doing the job.
I moved the unit around in different places in my yard and have found it works best in the shade. If you do this, keep emptying the traps and change the tanks regularly, you should have a simlar experience.

Comment: Mosquito Magnet products do not last. Through warranty replacement and upgrades, I have owned four units over five years. None have lasted through the second season. The last unit (which is MY LAST UNIT) worked less than 60 days. Support is poor and quality is nil. The mosquitos caught cost me several dollars each.
