Summary: Good even if you don't routinely get tackled
Comment: One of UA's original markets was sports shirts for football (mainly) that allowed players some protection against the abrasions that result from astro-turf and other synthetic surfaces. Heck, when I played football, even some grass fields would scrape me up, and with the new field-turf style surfaces, this is less of a problem -- but it still exists.
I'm quite sure that this product works well for that purpose, but it isn't why I bought it. I got it for a lighter weight cold-gear type shirt to wear when its cool, even cold, but not cold enough for the cold-gear. I'll admit to not having worn cold-gear, but I've been leary about being too warm in that shirt.
For that reason, UA also makes an all-season product. The only problem for me was the AS product was out of stock in my size and color needed where I looked, and I needed it that day. Hence, I got the turf gear for the same purpose and discovered it worked well. It doesn't have the mock turtle neck, but it will do the job in cool weather (i.e. 40+ even with some north wind) -- for about $15 cheaper than cold gear and $25 cheaper than AS gear. If it gets much colder than that, or you are out over a long period of time, you probably need to go with one of the other products designed for that weather. But don't sluff off this shirt.
