Customer Rating: Summary: Point about Gas tanks Comment: This is my first gas grill. I chose it for the size, portability, and design. I don't get quite the same flavor that I did with charcoal, but it is definitely more convenient.
A lot of people have inquired about why this grill is configured for the 14 oz tanks. I think there are two main reasons. First off, the 14 oz tanks look sleeker, and complement the nice, attractive design of the Q series better.
They are also lighter, and therefore better for portability.
Finally, as someone noted on the Weber Gas-n-Go grill comments, Weber apparently had balance problems when 16 ounce tanks were used on the Q-series. Apparently, the 14-ounce tanks don't tend to unbalance the grill as much.
Bottom line, if you plan to used this grill mostly on the patio or elsewhere at home, get a $15.00 adapter, and hook it up to a 20lb tank. That will be far more efficient than either a 14 oz or 16 oz tank.
If, on the other hand, you want to take the grill camping or to the lake, then you should be fine with a 14 oz tank. It will be lighter, and a full 14 oz tank will be more than enough for any grilling you do over a weekend. I've used mine 3 times already with one tank, about 20 minutes each time, and haven't run out yet. They are also cheaper overall than the 16 oz tanks, as somone else noted. One spare tank just in case should do the trick, and either way, the 16 oz tank wouldn't last much longer. 2 oz is nothing to stress over unless you're grilling daily, and in that case, as noted, you should normally be able to use a 20 lb tank anyway. (Someone camping out for months will probably want a smaller camping stove anyway.)
Customer Rating: Summary: why the skinny propane tank? Comment: This is a great grill, but why does Weber make it so you can only use the long skinny propane tanks instead of the shorter stubby propane tanks more easily found? I solved that problem by removing the chrome tank support bracket and making a new one from heavy wire that will fit the stubby propane tanks. Both tanks have the same threads, and the stubby tank works just fine on the grill when attached. Weber should give you both sized support brackets, or at the least make the one available for purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fuel Source Comment: I do not have this model, I have the Q220 which is brand new and only used once, but a dream for someone without a yard and grills on the sidewalk. Anyway, someone people had trouble finding propane, below is a little tip.
BernzOmaticư 14.1oz propane cylinders can be purchased at any hardware store. They are the propane tanks that a blow-torch is attached to and will be found near the blow-torches. You will not find these tanks anywhere near the camping/grilling sections. They are skinnier and taller and blue.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect!! Comment: This grill is perfect to grill things for three of us. It is light enough that I can move it anywhere and it is a breeze to clean! I had the larger one and gave it to my brother's family as there are more of them! An excellent choice!
