Customer Rating: Summary: After a year, figure on buying another one Comment: The Roomba red works great and fresh out of the box, it will dazzle you. Its cleaning ability and ease of use are just like everybody has said.
However, after year of use, it becomes a hassle. I should have listened to people and did the monthly maintenance, quarterly cleanning underneath the hood, and bi-annual battery replacement, but I did not. So now I spend time, scraping off dust crust on wheel tachometer sensors and having to disasemble the whole unit every month to keep it going.
So the best advice is budget 1 of these every year. When you lower expectations, spending $10 a month on a robot vacuum that you use 20 times a week is a five star bargin!
Just don't get your hopes up for longevity.
Customer Rating: Summary: Designed to Fail Comment: No sooner out of warranty then one of the wheels locks up and so roomba just sits still. Save your money. Didnt even clean that well when it was working.
Customer Rating: Summary: Save Some Time and Have a Cleaner Home with Roomba Comment: I've used Roomba 2 times so far. The area that I use it the most is hardwood floors with some area rugs. It works great on the hardwood and just OK on the rugs... I wouldn't give up my vacuum.
I have one shag rug that Roomba strains to go across, so I don't allow it to go on it anymore. When I prep the floors for Roomba (e.g., pick up the kids toys and move the kitchen chairs), I line them up around the edge of the shag rug so Roomba doesn't go on it.
A neat feature is when it senses there is a lot of dirt in one area and it goes into a more complete spot clean until the dirt is picked up. Overall, so far so good.
Basically with two kids and two working parents, Roomba saves us a little time and does a pretty good job, especially since I didn't get around to clean the floors as often as I should before Roomba.
Customer Rating: Summary: Horrible Reliability, Horrible Company, Horrible Service Comment: I was one of the early adopters, to take a chance and buy the original Roomba. It was great! In fact, I probably sold more of these through word of mouth than iRobots own sales force.
I ignored the people that said the Roombas are designed to fail, or break, in about a year (shortly after the Warranty expires). Sure enough, my Roomba lost its logic and just spun around in circles not days after my warranty expired.
Roomba support refused to repair the system and the only option with which I was left was to invest $99 in a replacement system, the Roomba Sage. I asked at the time if the replacement would work with all the extra batteries I bought for my original Roomba and I was told it would. I was also told the replacement would come with a charger and battery. A few weeks later I received the new Roomba to find it did not come with a battery or charger. I proceeded to use it with my existing batteries to find that they are compatible (as Roomba had told me) but they only lasted for 5-minutes in the new Roomba because it has a larger current drain and only works more than five minutes with the new style batteries.
I wrote Roomba about my dissatisfaction and have never received a reply. When I called, I was told that there was no record of my correspondence. As for my replacement Roomba, it was a waste of money as it is a useless fixture on my basement shelf.
All told I spent about $250 for my first Roomba. Another $150 for the replacement batteries and rapid charger and $99 for the replacement Roomba. This totals out at about $500, for one year of use. Take my advice, invest that money in a good Electrolux or Delsey (or even the new Electolux robot vacuum) because it's just not worth the convenience of a Roomba and the inconvenience of dealing with such a sub-standard company.
Customer Rating: Summary: I love this thing! Comment: The Roomba has to be the greatest invention ever. I love this thing. It really does work! I was skeptical at first as I have 4 cats and a dog. By the time Wed-Thurs rolled around after vacuuming on Sat or Sun my living room was covered with hair. Lugging the big vacuum downstairs is always a pain so I didnt vacuum nearly as often as I should.
With the Roomba Red I vacuum like every other day as soon as I notice some fur on the carpet. It does a fabulous job on pet hair. Everyone with at least one mammal at home can benefit from this thing. I vacuum while I am in the shower now!! :)
Everyone asks me if it gets stuck or hangs up on the edges of carpet. The answer is NO! This thing can get itself out of some amazing spots. The first day I had it I was just fascinated by its ability to extricate itself from areas I was sure I would have to retrieve it from. In a month of ownership and probably 10 vacuumings it has gotten so stuck I had to retrieve it 2 times. It shuts itself off if it gets stuck so it doesnt burn out or anything.
I only gave it 4 stars because I think that the manufacturer should put 2 "grabber" brushes on it. It needs one on the opposite side to grab more stuff from corners. It comes with one that does a good job but 2 would be even better. Also it should come with better maintenance tools. It is rather a chore to clean the brushes off after nearly every use but it is worth it. There should just be something else besides the little comb thing they provide with it to make life even easier. The only other minor annoyance is that it "wipes itself" on the edges of carpet when it is getting full. I guess that is a good indication to empty it but still it will leave a clump of fur on the edge of a carpet and that is kind of annoying.
It does both carpet and bare floor very well but dont let it near thin throw rugs, towels or fringe. It WILL get hung up and stuck on them. If you have a lot of fringy rugs this is not for you.
I heartily recommend it to anyone who hates to vacuum and particularly to people with pets.

Put up your feet and let the snazzy new Roomba Red self-propelled, self-navigating vacuum do your dirty work. It works methodically in a round spiral pattern to clean every inch of carpeted or hardwood floors. Use the "virtual wall" to confine the Roomba to the room of your choice. An internal sensor detects drop-offs and avoids them. Lightweight with an easy-to-grip handle, it's easily transported from room to room. Two clean functions clean and spot. Includes a standard six hour battery. Model #4100. 90 day parts and labor warranty.
