Summary: Clearest sound I've heard yet
Comment: I've replaced my iPod mini's earbuds 3 times now, and have finally found the sound I've been in search of.
I was generally happy with the Apple in-ear style replacement earbuds, but as my review of those indicates, I found out shortly that the hassle with consistent sound quality was too much to deal with, and they finally quit working after just shy of 3 months.
I decided to go with a cheap alternative just for kicks and tried the Koss 'The Plug' earbud. This proved a moderate improvement over the Apple products comfort, but the sound was muddy and inconsistant.
Then I decided to purchase a really nice set of earbuds (the most expensive 'phones that I've ever purchased) and decided on these.
I've been using these 'phones for just over 3 months now and am still amazed by their quality.
As most reviews indicate, the bass is the most debated topic regarding this product, and in my opinion is a higly subjective subject. I believe though, when fitted correctly, these are very accurate in bass production. Getting these phones seated in my ear canal correctly was my immediate goal upon receipt and I found what I believed was a good fit within minutes out of the box. The bass wasn't overwhelming, but was represented well, and hardly an audible range is overlooked during playback of all types of music.
I experienced some discomfort with the 3-flange tips included, and debated taking a pair of scissors to the largest flange, but decided to contact etymotic's customer service instead. They immediately sent me a few pairs of replacement tip samples to try and I found that more than one of the samples produced the high quality sound I had gotten used to, but with very little discomfort.
In short, I love the sound that these puppies produce and think that the audio profile is very near perfect for all styles of music.
I highly encourage those who demand nothing short of the best earbud in the sub-$100 range to seriously consider purchasing these earbuds. You will receive great customer service, as well as a wonderful product for your money.

Summary: Fine sound. Not recommended for everyday use
Comment: Note:
Read the manual properly and spend some time to get it "installed" into your ear. You really have to do some homework to get it shaped for a comfortable fit.

Positive factor:
Very fine sound reproduction targetted for especially for audiophiles who know every nuance of sounds. The bass is fine. If you are used to turning up your bass on your amplifier, you may be expecting a different bass. But keep in mind, that the bass you get by amplifying it is not the original bass the musician wanted you to listen. This earphone reproduces the EXACT bass that the composer intented to for the track.

Negative factor:
This earphone is suitable only for audiophiles or people who work in studios or whose main job is to listen to music only. Its not suitable for your everyday listening. It completely isolates you from your surroundings and makes you feel eeire. You can "listen" to each step that you make (while walking) or movement that you make (while sitting). To understand what I am saying, just try to close your ears with you hand and walk. Don't you listen to each step and doesn't your breath sound too loud? Its exactly the same feeling that you get when you put on these earphones. You can avoid these sounds by pumping up the volume but then you will be damaging your ears as the higher volume will be a direct assault on your ear-drums.

After listening on these phones you will start loving them, but then they prevent you from doing your everyday work. If you revert back to your old phones you will clearly hear the difference and won't want to listen on them anymore. You will be in a fix!!!

These earphones are not as expensive as Shure. So its worth the buy. But before you buy them please think thrice whether you really need them. Are you a SERIOUS listener or a casual listener? If you are the latter (like most of us), please don't waste your money on these. Go for a normal Seinheisser over-the-head headphone for casual listening. Even they provide good isolation and good sound though they won't isolate you entirely from your surroundings

Summary: Really good isolation.
Comment: I listen to a lot of classical music. Because the dynamic range of this music is so broad, I really needed some headphones/earphones that cut back background noise to a bare minimum. Otherwise, I would set my Ipod levels so high that the loud bits would seriously hurt my ears.

I considered the Bose. They are: 1) expensive; and 2)BIG. I read lots of reviews and decided to try the Etymotic 6is.

I have had them for almost a year now. I won't leave home without them. I travel a lot, and they are great on the plane. Once I get them seated properly, I can't hear anything but music. And it doesn't have to be loud.

A lot of people complain about a lack of bass. Well, I think that so much music today is bass-loaded that people have unrealistic expectations. When my classical stuff has bass, these little things deliver it. I don't feel it in my belly, but it's there.

I also use the Etymotics on subways and while walking to our offices in DC and NYC. They are great in the subway. When I'm walking, however, I can hear every step I take, particularly if I'm wearing hard soled dress shoes. But this is just a quibble.

I use the three flanged earpieces and haven't had any problems.

Bottom line: these little things are great for real music.

Summary: El Mejor sonido / The Best sound
Excelente Aislamiento, Excelente Sonido, Buen Precio.
Los Recomiendo ampliamente.

I bought these earphones to use them when I go to enviroment of much noise, Gim, airplanes and airports. I read in several sites like Cnet and Amazon that it are fabulous. Really, if they are it, the audio is sensational with my Ipod, the answer of the bass is phenomenal and tweater the best ones. The trick is to know like put in the ear according to instructions attached to packet. If you put them in bad you won't appreciate its good sound. My friends and my Brothers who have used it, they say that they will buy ones of. It is worth the price, if you compare it with others of the competition as the Shure and other brands much more expensive.
Excellent noise isolation, Excellent Sound, Good Price.

Summary: This is definitely the way to go!
Comment: These are outstanding earphones. The foam ear piece is exceptionally comfortable for a long plane ride. The sound is superb, you can actually hear the difference in the drums. The noise isolation is very good considering this type of earphone. I've had both Bose QC's, which I consider exceptional, but didn't like the profile. The more you travel the smaller you want things. I tried the Sony earphones but they hurt my ears. I don't have to have the best headphones for sound but I have to have the comfort and these will give you that.

Editorial Reviews:

Get the most from your iPod with the ER-6i Isolator earphones, which deliver plush, clear tones to your favorite tunes. The phones are compatible with any portable audio player with a 3.5 mm stereo plug, though the stylish white earpieces and cord look straight out of the iPod playbook. The phones are also lightweight and compact, fitting conveniently in a shirt pocket, purse, or iPod carrying pouch. The elite audio performance derives from the phones' high overall sensitivity and the noise-reducing design, which reduces environmental sound levels by 30 to 35 dB, allowing listeners to hear the full range of today's digital recordings without having to play them at extreme levels. The design also reduces distortion and improves clarity. Users who are particularly attuned to fluctuations in audio quality will appreciate the filter changing tool and pair of replacement filters. When a filter eventually gets dirty and reduces the earphone's output, the listener can install a new filter in minutes. Whether your component of choice is a portable MP3 player, CD player, DVD player, or laptop, the ER-6i Isolator earphones are a great fit. The phones come with a shirt clip that keeps the cord close to the vest and a storage pouch.
