Summary: So easy to setup and use - why did I wait so long to get this?
Comment: I was going to buy the Ryobi rolling folding saw but decided to ante up and get a high quality saw. I love my Bosch saw and always look forward to doing the occasional rip with it, compared to the loathing I had for my behemoth Cratfsman saw purchased over 30 years ago; I'll give that saw to my son who is now starting his bulding career. BTW; the Sears saw still works great.

Summary: A good saw - could be better.
Comment: When I received the saw, I was surprised that I did not receive manuals. I retrieved electronic versions from Bosch. Assembly and adjustment were well-documented. The riving knife, the zero stop and the 45 degree stop all required adjustment. The "fattest" setting on the zero stop was not quite enough to get it to zero, but a couple of pieces of blue tape made it right. The angle adjustment really requires two people if you are carefully checking the angle. The distance from the blade to the fence was a little greater at the rear of the blade than the front, and that is workable. I may adjust it closer to parallel at some point.

The plastic blade guard is not detachable from the riving knife. This is not a great design when you want to cut small pieces. If you are cutting a half inch piece, you would like to ditch the plastic guard but keep the riving knife so you can keep your push stick between the fence and the blade, and have room for your hand. If you raise the blade high enough, you can swing the blade guard up and out of the way, but who wants to run their hand that close to the blade?! Maybe if you make a really tall push stick. The only other option is to remove the riving knife - blade guard, and that seems unsafe as well.

The fence is really pretty good. The miter guage has some slop in the fit with the slot. The miter guage is adjustable for that in the rear, but not in the front. So for crosscuts of longer pieces, the slop comes into play until the adjustable rear of the miter guage engages the slot.

There is a highly decorative dust port, but attaching a dust collector collects a max of 50% of the dust. The included blade is alright for ripping, but most people will want to install an upgraded combination blade.

I expected plastic, but it surprises me Bosch would use plastic for moving parts (the gears to raise and lower blade). I will just have to wait to see how they hold up.

In spite of these limitations, the saw performs pretty well for most work, and has enough horsepower to run through two inch cherry (slow feed, 1/8" replacement blade, but the cherry did not burn). I've even cut coves on it (very slowly).

Summary: Portable "cabinet saw"
Comment: As a remodeling professional, my tools must be reliable and accurate. After working with other portable saws over the years, I highly scrutinized the saws that were available when I needed to purchase a new one.

The Bosch table saw with the gravity stand is the best there is. I extremely happy with the performance and accuracy of this unit. The only downfall is that I have to beg my crew for chance to use it (and I own it)!

If you want or require the best, don't look any further. Add a dust bag and left side extension and you are set!

Summary: Perfect
Comment: Although I am not a carpenter, I do a lot of my own renovations, etc. My brother-in-law has this saw and I would constantly borrow it. I finally purchased one with the integrated table and have zero regrets. It is simply fantastic.

Editorial Reviews:

We think this benchtop is actually a cabinet saw in a compact, totally portable disguise. Its looks are completely deceiving, because it handles any job a big saw can, yet it’s compact for the home workshop and super convenient to take to a job site.

First, it’s got the largest table surface in the worksite class, but lift the lock handle and open out the built-in extension rails and, believe it or not, you’re running sheet goods with a 25-inch rip capacity. The table surface is smooth as glass, and with a coat of wax on it, it’s superb. The extension rails ride effortlessly and lock securely, and the extension doesn’t give even under a full sheet of 3/4-ply. Bosch sells auxiliary left-side and rear supports for unbeatable capacity and stability.

The fence, not even considering that it’s on a benchtop, is awesome. It locks front and back, slides like a dream, detaches and seats without any struggle, stores neatly right on board, and the viewer has a great magnifying lens (though none of us will admit we need it yet) for ultra-accurate fence settings. Out of the box, our fence was totally true and perpendicular to the blade. We like the substantial height of it, and it will easily accommodate any type of auxiliary fence you might want to put on it. The miter gauge is sturdier than what we usually see on a benchtop, and it’s longer, too, for a little more room at the infeed and more stability, too. Positive stops were right on when we checked ours out of the box, but of course, you’ll want to check yours anyway. And like the fence, the miter gauge stores neatly right on the saw base.

Startup is jar-free, and it’s surprisingly quiet for a 15-amp saw, even under a full load. We didn’t experience any bogging down at all in our trials, and Bosch says that’s due to what they call Constant Response Circuitry. We’re just toolhounds here, not rocket scientists, but it has something to do with monitoring the torque demand on the machine and instantly adjusting to deliver enough power for a totally consistent speed. It’s direct drive, of course, yet we felt no-—and we mean zero—-vibration. Now, that could be because it’s heavier than you’d expect a worksite saw to be, but because of the wheeled stand, that’s definitely not a detractor.

Once the saw is mounted to this ingenious stand (and that’s not a taxing task), it only takes seconds to set up or break down with practically no effort. It actually uses the saw’s weight to raise and lower it, and it’s perfectly balanced and provides an ergonomically comfortable work height. Big, beefy, treaded pneumatic tires roll beautifully over even the most rugged jobsite surfaces.

Bosch probably intended this as a worksite saw, but we think it’s ideal too for the home woodworker and do-it-yourselfer, especially one who’s tight on space. The stand lets you fold it up and roll it out of the way when your work is done. Absolutely can’t go wrong with this one.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
