Summary: Returned the Headset
Comment: I want to mention up front that this was my first headset I shortly owned. Therefore, I really didn't have anything else to compare it too. The headset was used with a Treo 650.

Pro: The headset was comfortable and stylish. The sound quality received was very good.

Con: At least four different people I called said that they couldn't hear me and I had to repeat myself or speak louder than normal.

In the end, I returned the headset and I am now looking at the reviews to find a better one.

Summary: so far, best one for my Razr
Comment: I had H3, which I returned and got the HS500.
I like it. Call quality is OK, not superb.
I chose to stay with Motorola brand as my Razr car & travel charger will charge the headset. Big plus in the car.

It's light and it works. Comfort is just OK.
If I were on the phone all day, I seek out a more comfy model.
But for light to moderate use, it is decent for the money and nice to have in the car.

Summary: Motorola H500 not what I expected.
Comment: I was very disappointed in this headset. I am a big fan of Motorola in general, and have had good experiences with few exceptions (every company is entitled to some stinkers). The unit was great in most aspects, except where I needed it most!

- The range from the Razor phone was terrible. With the phone in my left pocket and the headset in my right ear, there was static. Unacceptable range.
- Sound. Just about everyone I talked to when in a conversation using the headset couldn't understand what I was saying. They said it sounded like I was mumbling!! I would have to disconnect and use the phone, to which everyone would say "that's much better!".

Basically, I'm going back to Plantronics, with whom I've had great luck in the wired versions. I read one review that said an individual borrowed his neighbor's H500, and it worked flawlessly but one he purchased had the same issues. Maybe there is a manufacturing issue with different lots. I would rather think this is the case, as Motorola has traditionally excelled at quality engineering. However, I'm done with Motorola in the headset area for now. I took mine back.

Summary: Had the H500, switched to the H700...worth the money
Comment: Recently I decided to be frivilous and try to save some money by buying the Motorola H500 over the Motorola H700. I was rewarded for my frivality (new word? why not...) with lackluster performance and another trip to Best Buy to make an exchange. It's not that the H500 is bad, it's just that it lacks that extra step/feature that is sorely needed. For example when I used the H500 on the highway not only could I barely hear my brother on the other line, he also said I sounded far away and distant. I tried to turn the volume all the way up but was disappointed to find out even at MAX Volume it still was too quiet to hear clearly. I also did some walking around and tried to use the H500 but found the same problem, not loud enough in my ear and the party on the other line complained that I sounded far away.

Today I switched to the H700. Volume in my ear problem? Gone, the H700 is actually too loud and must be turned down. The problem of my voice sounding distant is also gone. I called my brother again and he didn't even know I was using a headset till I asked him if I sounded better today. Worth the extra $ I would say up to 50 bucks.

Summary: Spend a few bucks more, don't get this one!
Comment: First of all, I should state that this is my first experience with bluetooth headsets. Also, I may have received a defective unit which wouldn't make for a fair example of what these units are capable of.

I have tried to use the H500 with my V3c RAZR with very spotty results over the period of a month. On a fresh charge (that lasts for about three short calls) it sounds great...sometimes. Other times, it sounds so garbled that I can only understand every other word. It clears up if I hold my phone about a foot away from the headset in a horizontal position. Why bother with a headset if I have to hold my phone near my ear??? It also turns on too easily when kept in my pants pocket. No I don't wear tight pants, hahaha.

In concept, it's a great unit, but in real world use, it's a disaster! Hopefully it's not too late to exchange it for a more expensive unit. It's true, you get what you pay for!

I would discourage anyone I know from buying this model! If I can't return or exchange it, it'll go right in the garbage where it belongs!

Editorial Reviews:

For a wireless-savvy cell phone user who demands superior performance and a good value, the Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset offers the best of both worlds. With a compact and comfortable handsome gray design the headset delivers longer talk times at a great price. This headset is both discreet and stylish, yet Motorola does not scrimp on functionality. The small size and lightweight construction allows for easy storage when not in use. Just slip the device in your pocket or toss it inside your glove box. Also, don't be fooled by the headsets good looks -- this petite powerhouse provides impressive battery power and an omni-directional microphone to clearly pick up your voice. The H500 features lengthy talk and standby times -- up to eight hours of talk time or 150 hours of standby time from a single full charge. And included with the headset is a handy, compact travel charger so you'll never run out of power on the go.

When you use your H500 for the first time, you must pair the headset with your phone. Once your phone recognizes the headset, the H500 is easy to operate -- simply press the multifunction button, place the headset on your ear, and a link is automatically established. The multifunction button allows you to control three-way calling, call start and end, hold, and mute, all with one click. And with Bluetooth wireless technology, the headset will work with any compatible device at a distance of up to 30 feet (10 meters) away. Don't stop with just your cell phone; consider pairing the H500 with your Bluetooth-enabled PC for great, hands-free Voice Over IP (VoIP) communications.

Designed for anyone, the adjustable, ergonomic earhook with improved back housing allows the headset to be worn on either the left or right ear. You can also easily control the volume or mute your call directly from the H500. This Motorola wireless accessory is compatible with any Bluetooth 1.2 enabled mobile phones or devices that support headset and hands-free profiles.

What's in the Box
Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset, AC travel charger, quick start guide, and user's manual.
