Summary: GREAT -- GREAT -- GREAT
Comment: The was a replacement for my HP Printer. The Brother name didn't have the same impact as the HP Brand. I had the HP laser printer for more than 10 years, so I was a little behind the times. The Brother 5250DN (Network) printer was easy to set up and the features are outstanding. It plugged directly into my router (anybody want to buy a print server), and networked to my wireless instantly. The front auxiliar feed takes 10-15 envelopes at one time, or a convenient way to feed checks or other auxiliary papers without feeding one at a time..as I did with the HP. The often mentioned power drain is not a problem for me. I have it plugged in the same outlet with my router and other devices, and nothing is impacted. It wakes up... prints and dozes off again. GREAT Quality, GREAT features and GREAT price.

Summary: Best printer I've ever owned
Comment: I spent a few months looking at laser printers and I was convinced that HP was the way to go... However, after comparing the features and the price I was totally sold on the Brother 5250DN. For 250$ you get networking, duplexing, almost instant-on printing, and 30 pages a minute. With HP printers you would pay a whole lot more to get the same features.

My first impression of the printer was that it was utilitarian at best. There is no LCD display, only two simple buttons and a few LED lights on the control panel. Since I'm a gadgety-kinda-guy I wanted a printer with an LCD screen and some other cool things on it. I quickly ignored the lack of the LCD screen when I saw how nicely the printer worked. After printing just a few documents I was totally sold on the quality of this machine. Everything that I print looks flawless and razor-sharp. I started to enjoy the way the printer was designed even more... don't let the outward simplicity deceive you! Also, since the printer is almost cube-like, there aren't any protruding paper-trays or other pieces to make placement awkward.

One of my favorite features is a button combination that you can press (I think you have to hold down the 'Go' button for 3 seconds-- check the manual) to re-print whatever you had just printed. This has come in handy a few times since the printer is downstairs and, if I suddenly realize that I need another copy, I can print it without having to walk upstairs to my computer and resend the print job. Also, if you want to print more than one copy you can, you hold 'Go,' release it, then press it the number of times that you want reprints made. It's a handy little feature that I found while reading the manual.

Also, while I haven't done this yet, the printer uses common SDRAM for its memory upgrade module, not some expensive, proprietary memory. I'm not sure if this is a common practice but it definately made sense and I applaud Brother for choosing to use something generic and consumer friendly.

The network sharing took me a little to figure out, but after installing the Brother network manager the printer worked much better. At first it would totally drop print jobs since I had Windows interfacing with the printer directly. Now, after installing the Brother network software and printing to the BNT port, every print job is handled successfully.

I've had the printer since January (so coming up on six months), and 780 pages later this printer is still performing wonderfully. I've never had a paper jam or a bad quality print. The 5250DN just sits there patiently waiting for me to give it something to do, and I never have to worry about clogged nozzles or poor quality output. I have noticed that it draws quite a bit of power initially (I can tell when the printing starts because the lights in my house flicker ever so slightly). The printer is quiet overall, it just makes a nice humming noise as it is working and it spits out pages like you wouldn't believe.

The Brother 5250DN is the perfect low-maintenance printing solution and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a laser printer. I would definately buy from Brother again.

Summary: As good as it gets
Comment: I did a lot of research before buying the Brother HL-5250DN here on Amazon.

It arrived after three business days, was well-packaged, easy to set up and neither noisy (as some reviewers have said) nor taxing on my power supply.

Just about as full of features as anything in its price range, robust, simple to use and of an amazingly high print quality, I could not be happier with it.

Support at Brother is good, the manual excellent (although Mac options are not always clear) and integration with 10.4 superb.

I bought the Brother HL-5250DN to give a professional feel to my writing submissions and work proposals. It far exceeds what I expected and wanted.

Reviews all over the internet call this a huge 'hit' for Brother. They're right. Wonderful!

Summary: Almost perfect, and yet....
Comment: This sounded like exactly the printer I wanted, but I was a little trepidacious about the power issues I saw noted here. But I have a newer house with reasonable circuits, so surely this wouldn't be a problem in my home office. I picked it up.

Installation was a breeze. I had the printer connected to my Mac (10.4) in minutes, once I realized that the printer used Rendezvous and I had to get it on the network to install the driver. Yes, I have been trained by years of Windows to install the driver first.

I then set up duplexing by default on the printer setup and proceded to print out a large documnet in 2up mode, double sided. Four hundred pages condensed to 100 sheets of paper. The printer was quick, fairly quiet, and very legible.

But from the minute I turned on the printer, one of the UPSes started clicking on and off. The dreaded "undervoltage" issue I had read about here. So I shut it down, and the clicking stopped. On, more clicking. Off, no clicking. It was the printer.

When I tried it again later at night, I noticed something I didn't see during the day. It actually dimmed the room lights. Considerably.

I love the feature set of this printer. Built in networking prvides a lot of flexibility. Print is fast and clear, and the duplexing works great. But the power issue is a deal killer for me. I have returned this printer. At this point, I would buy a new Brother model if the power issues were fixed, but not until then.

Summary: The best printer for the money that I have ever bought
Comment: I purchased this printer last year and am extremely happy with it.

Easy to hook up and has performed flawlessly for me. As for the toner, most stores locally only carry the TN550 which yields 3500 pages, but on-line I have found the TN570 for about 10.00 more but yields 7000 pages. The 7000 page yield TN570 makes this printer very economical.

Another nice feature of this printer is that you can print in booklet form (8.5X11 paper landscape and folded into booklet) with ease. Create your document and when printing choose duplex and booklet and within seconds it converts your document automatically.
