Summary: great video
Comment: Great instructional video! Andy and his sidekick are surprisingly friendly, funny and perfect for explaining the basics of begining surfing. Beautifully shot in Hawaii and had me wanting to get in the water immediately. Good production value. I also like how they incorporate archival footage of Andy as a child in addition to funny skits which make learning to surf less intimidating than some of the other videos I have seen. Definintely worth the $20.

Summary: Not Bad
Comment: All-in-all, fairly watchable. Some nice shots of Hawaii. It opens with a brief recap of Andy's surfing accomplishments before going into the instruction. Frankly, Andy seems a lot more comfortable on a surfboard than in front of a camera explaining how to surf. His goofy sidekick does most of the talking and tries a little too hard to be funny, but its ok because you know he's only trying to make it watchable. Not the highest production quality in terms of directing, filming, script, etc. -- sometimes it looks like they just set up a video camera and told the guys to talk -- but somewhat entertaining, nonetheless. As far as instructional value, I guess it depends what level you're coming at it from. I had a lesson in Waikiki a few years ago and go out regularly on the weekends, so a lot of it was rehash for me. But I did pause, rewind, and slo-mo a few areas, such as Andy's pop-up on a small wave with a longboard (they mount a camera onto the board) and believe it or not, the section about tieing the leash cord onto the board. Of course there's a lot filler, but all in good fun, and hey, how much can you cover in an instructional surf video -- it's not rocket science.
