Customer Rating: Summary: not weildable.....MY A** Comment: For those of you who have stated that this sword is"not weildable" I have a little bone to pick with you. this sword is by far the best sword I have ever owned. The edge is beveled, witch is bad. However a sharpening stone and some honing oil can and will fix that. The big arguement for this is that you need to take into consideration that most of the time you are not going blade to blade you are ,however, going blade to flesh. In conlusion is in fact Battle ready, it's all in how you use it.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Fine Addition to Any Collection Comment: As other reviewers have stated, this is merely a fanboy collector's item. It is heavy, unbalanced, and impossible to wield with one hand. The skin of the handle is covered in bumpy, white plastic which takes away from the realism of the sword, but overall, this sword is worth it if you're a fan of FF7. Great item for display, it immediately makes its presence known in a room. I uploaded a few pictures of the sword on display in the "customer images" section, with a few closeups of the handle so you can decide for yourselves.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Must-Have For FFVII Sephiroth Fans Comment: Being a huge Sephiroth fan as well as a Samurai sword collector, I couldn't resist buying this one. It's definately worth the price even with the flaws. The imitation same (ray skin) stands out as the biggest flaw for me because it's just a thin plastic wrapping which is too white to look realistic. The blade also has "CHINA" engraved on one of the sides but doesn't detract from the look too much since it's tiny comparing to the blade. The balance is horrible since it feels much heavier than the 5 - 6 pounds it must weigh (shipping weight was 9 pounds) when held with the proper grip...but that's not too important since it is only a display sword. I have a 2.5 pound functional katana which is made for tameshigiri (test cutting) and it feels very light. This Masamune replica definately feels more than twice as heavy as that sword.
It still has major differences from the one in the movie but the overall look is accurate since the tsuba (hand guard) is dead-on. The major differences from the movie I see are as follows:
1) The tsuka-ito (hilt wrapping) is black rather than blue in the movie.
2) Doesn't have a hamon (transition of the soft steel back to the hard steel edge) but had one in the movie. You can see the hamon during the close-up of the sword's blade after Sephiroth stabs Cloud in the shoulder/armpit. Maybe the replica's better without one though since display katana usually have an ugly acid-etched (fake) hamon which doesn't look like a gentle wave but rather sharp "mountains" and stops short of the kissaki (point) of the blade.
3) The tsuka (hilt) appears to be longer than in the movie. Might have been lengthened for extra support for such a long blade if the nakago (tang - part of the blade that fits in the hilt) is long.
4) The kashira (butt cap of hilt) is shorter than in the movie.
If you have to take care of this sword by yourself (like I do), you'll be in for a challenge at first ;). Unsheathing/sheathing it alone is very unwieldy and you do have to be very careful since the blade has been "sharpened" (beveled like a knife - not proper for Samurai swords). If possible, get another person to help you unsheath/sheath it when you have to clean/oil the blade or when you have to check on it during humid days.
Customer Rating: Summary: if it's the same one I got for Christmas... Comment: My fiance bought me this sword from Christmas, and by far it has to be the best replica of Sephiroth's sword I've ever seen. It's extremely well made, and surpisingly well balanced. A definite must have.
Customer Rating: Summary: Yeah... Comment: I bought this. I stabbed myself in the foot. Thats really all I have to say. Moral of the story: If you buy this, safety first!
