Summary: Condescendingly entertaining
Comment: If you're like me - middle-aged, white, male, conservative, Christian, who buys most of my clothes at Old Navy - you will be the target of all the condescending ridicule in every article. And yet I find it very entertaining! Although I'll never be able to afford even one of their recommended outfits, and I'm usually a full 180 degrees opposite of their political views, I find their articles interesting, well-written, and insightful. I must admit, I should hate Esquire, because the editors and writers would find me disgusting. But somehow I look forward to seeing it in my mailbox every month. The writers, if nothing else, are intelligent, which is more than I can say for the writers in most guy magazines like FHM and Maxim.

Summary: I Love Esquire Magazine!
Comment: This is the original. If you are looking for a man's magazine that is insightful, thought provoking, entertaining, and a great buy, look no further. Esquire has been around a long time and one of the reasons for its great success is that it has a certain 'feel' to it that transcends time. Yet it is right on the cutting edge of today's issues.

Magazines like Maxim, Stuff, and FHM will never be in the class of Esquire because their appeal is strictly 'shock-value.' Basically if you have seen one of them, you've seen them all. They offer nothing new, and most of the content is pretty crass.

Esquire, on the other hand entertains while making you think about a wide range of issues. There is always something in Esquire that makes you want to pick it up and actually read what's between the covers. Yet it still has its own unique style. The subscription price is huge bargain. You can't go wrong with it!

Summary: Cheap and worth the price
Comment: I'm not sure if I like this magazine or not but the subscription is cheap enough to make no matter. I like the reference point for further exploration on the internet but feel it not for the average Joe, unless of course you are single and making six figures. There are tons of reviews and recommendations and here are some examples. Most guys from my era(a baby boomer) who are still kicking probably own a pair of wing tips but considering they are upwards of $250 now they might might want to hang on to those originals. How about a niice reversible nylon-cotton jacket that'll only set you back $1,095. without tax, oh yeah, it is weather proof ! Silk ties for $155 anyone? How about a pair of sunglasses for a bargain $540? If you are like most of us losing a pair of sunglasses at that price would make me never wear a pair again either that or else put a chain on them to a pair of handcuffs. They do offer some good practical information for the stylish one in your life. These tidbits are offered in the form of how to wear a coat or a variety of ways to tie a tye. If this sounds silly than maybe you might want GQ or something else. There are some decent articles but for the most part it is littered with too much information, translation, you've got to go through too many ads to finish the article. One feature I love is the Esquire Scent Selector where you identify with a personality/ celeb and they recommend a scent. Since I chose Benecio Del Toro over Johnny Depp(tough choice) and Selama Hayek over Jessica you-know-who(not a tough choice) and we would be bombed on Patron over Corona they came up with a cologne(Michael Kors Michael) decribed as "spicy, intense, peppery and slightly volatile." Instead of cologne it sounds more like some mamasita from my past! Overall it is a pretty good read , or consumer peruser, that is not great nor bad just something you gloss over and wonder why none of the models in the magazine look like you or anyone you know while you're dousing yourself with some new fragrance. If you like ads this is for you.

Summary: Too Many Ads.
Comment: Esquire is a subpar Men's magazine, in my opinon. More than half of the magazine is advertisements, and when you finally get to the articles they are rarely entertaining and/or thought-provoking. If you like ads and cologne samples, pick it up. After all, it is pretty decently priced.
