Customer Rating: Summary: Love even the back issues!!! Comment: I really love love love this magazine. I oftentimes find back issues (a few years old) at work and each time I find one it's like I struck gold! The articles are so useful and relevant (even if a few years old!).
My favories are the recipes and the time-saving tips. Both are very very practical and inexpensive!!!
This is not going to be one of those magazines that you read through once and then toss. Make sure you invest in some quality magazine storage boxes cause you're going to want to keep these around for awhile!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Simply Wonderful! Comment: I adore Real Simple. I have subscribed for 2 years and wait in anticipation for each issue. I started a filing system for all the helpful articles I tore out until I happily discovered their great web site which allows me to store the files online. I have used much of their advice to great success - and have had great compliments when I have made some of their very easy dishes.
I have loaned the magazine to friends who then just start their own subscription, because they don't want to wait.
If you are looking for a resource that offers easy tips on anything from household cleaning to birthday parties, making quick meals, a comparison review of household purchases from shower heads to irons to cleaners and provides a little inspiration then this is a magazine for you!

Customer Rating: Summary: An acquired taste? Comment: I am in my fourth year of subscribing to this magazine. I read the negative reviews listed, and wondered to myself if I also noticed those things on my first or second issue, or even in my first year. But although I may just be more used to the ads (which I've noticed that most magazine reviews on Amazon mention "too many ads!"), I do think some reviewers have been very wrong about this mag- it is definitely not all about buying things- for instance, the repeating section, "new uses for old things." RS consistently features articles about using old or original items, and ways to spruce them up. The recipes are always written so that you get a week's worth of dinners out of the same ingredients, and many of the organizing tips are free! One thing I've always loved about RS is when they do compare and discuss products (anything from furniture to umbrellas) they always have a range of choices- from Pottery Barn level to items at Target. So maybe RS is an acquired taste, but I have found it to be the best magazine I've ever purchased. It is so thick and heavy, I pick up other magazines and am instantly disappointed. I am looking at my March 2006 issue right now, and here are some articles:
-"Fix Your Money Leaks- 22 ways to plug financial leaks."
-"Budding Talent- learn to trim, arrange, and display flowers"
-"One-Pot Wonders- 6 streamlined recipes"
-"Jackets Be Nimble- four versatile jackets to transform your wardrobe."
And then always the "Solutions" section (my favorite), Cooking, Home, Body, Beauty, Life ('tips for saying no' and such), Style, and the Organizer.
I get tricks to use from every article. My primary purpose in reading RS is for better organizing and home management, but I like that you get a little bit of everything. And at the end of each year, subscribers receive an "index" booklet of all the articles by topic, so you can reference the article you need about stain removal or decorating bookcases or cooking with squash, without flipping through years of pages.
Hope this adds more insight to some of the good and bad that's been said, from a seasoned reader.
Customer Rating: Summary: Real Simple is great Comment: My Wife loves reading this magazine, and reads it cover to cover as soon as it arrives. She is so happy to use the ideas in the magazine, and she converses with her friends about all the interesting stories.
Customer Rating: Summary: I love this magazine because it has great ideas! Comment: I have received this subscription for three years now and I love every minute of the reading of my monthly issues. As for some of the other reviews which are negative, I feel sorry for those readers who don't realize the meaning of Real Simple. Things are made simpler in the magazine from recipes in which one meal can become several "leftover meals" to easy decorating (although not always cheap) to Simple Solutions to everyday tasks. People need to know that not everything simple is inexpensive.
