Customer Rating: Summary: Black delivers to the crowd, left nameless Comment: It saddens me to say that when I first heard news of this release, I hadn't thought all that much about it because I had already heard everything there was to hear from Lewis Black; it's not that I didn't enjoy his work, obviously, it was just that I didn't see what else he could offer and, to be plain, I feared this DVD would merely be all of his skits from previous CD projects jumbled into one feature and then processed. After a while of it being released, a friend of mine (whom I had a part in converting his taste toward Black's politically cynical passion) told me he purchased the DVD and that he loved it, and I thought, "What the hell?" And again, you need to realize that I have cherished every performance Lewis Black has ever done (well, most of them, anyhow), and that included a number of shows never released to the public. His satire is fresh and witty, and it fills me with the sort of anger only Black himself can emit because it's a torn combination of hatred and love, on all accounts with what he's complaining about.
Upon watching the comic's hour show, I was immediately content with the material because, although I had heard much of it beforehand through other albums, this was the first time I had ever actually watched Lewis Black perform. I had all three of his CD releases ("Rules of Enragement," "The White Album" and "The End of the Universe") but still I hadn't ever realized how compelling he was because half of the man's hilarity lain with his ability to keep an audience enthralled by his A) numerously comical expressions and B) his sporadic finger shapes. These two essential basics of Lewis Black's presentations combined with his satiric wit had me awestruck for the whole hour.
For some of the downhill straws: considering most of his material I had heard elsewhere, it was harder for me to really value all of this recording, but I think centrally-speaking it was his movement and facial ticks that made me laugh so hard because the man is just flat-out witty. So I suppose you can't even call them flaws on this DVD because not only did I still appreciate the work that much more, but when I hear the same material on another CD it'll hit worthwhile as I recall the looks he grew on his face with each punch line. "The man is a bloody prodigy."
To recap, I would strongly recommend this to all fans of Lewis Black, even if you've heard every one of his releases. If you fail to welcome the same belligerent tone he has, you should at least be able to laugh with how he constructs each joke and make bets to yourself on which way his fingers are going to shape and turn and conform to each sketch.
I've had this DVD for a little over three weeks now and I still haven't gotten sick of it; whenever I need a good laugh, Lewis Black is the perfect cure for not only the irate accoutrements, but also for how he has come to entertain me just by staring into the camera and being who only he can be, and that's Lewis Black, nothing more.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very funny different from most stand up comedians Comment: Lewis black is contreversial because he says what alot of americans would like to say but are too afraid of not being PC. This comedian is very entertaining and that really says alot when someone is doing standup. Do not buy this if you are easily offended as this is not exactly family material. If you liked sam kinison you might just like Lewis Black.
Customer Rating: Summary: I guess Comment: Once again.......I can't really rate this, I don't know anything about him, just that my son thinks he's funny,
Customer Rating: Summary: He's funnier when you can see him. Comment: I bought all of Lewis Black's CD's after having seen him on the "Daily Show." Each and every one deserves a 5 star rating. Yet - I still wanted more so I bought the Black on Broadway DVD.
The material on the DVD is a cobbled together, best of much of his previous work.
What you get with the DVD is his facial expressions and the "finger." The wagging "finger!" The "finger" that gives you some idea of how pissed off he really is.
And he has a right to be pissed off - because the world has way too many idiots.
His ablility to make vessel bursting anger seem funny is comic genius.
The DVD is a must for hardcore fans and the newly initiated.

Customer Rating: Summary: Enter Lewis Black and the $15,000 Umbrella Stand. Comment: I saw this on HBO earlier sometime in 2005. Since then I forgot most of the material that was said; that actually happens frequently with comedians on TV for me for some reason, I decided I had to get this, since I had long forgotten the material. I popped this in the TV and immediately enjoyed the words coming from Mr. Black's mouth like I had heard them for the first time. Since then, I've showed this DVD to many of my friends and they have all enjoyed tit as much as I have. If you are a fan of Lewis Black then this will not disappoint. Pick it, up, the price of eight bucks makes it worth every penny.

Lewis Black's performance in the HBO special Lewis Black: Black on Broadway is exactly like his "Back in Black" spots on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. If you love his sputtering, furious rants on the fake news, there's no reason you won't enjoy an hour's worth on DVD, during which Black spits out his grievances against typical stand-up comedy fodder--corporate scandals, air travel, etc.--in his usual, direct style. (Good line: "If you're in coach, kill yourself.") The only caveat: you'll get nothing extra here. The disc contains the show, brief shots of his entering/exiting the theater, and that's it. No interviews, no commentary track, not even a set of Spanish subtitles. But since Black's routine is stripped-down anger, perhaps it's fitting for the DVD to be stripped-down Black. --Leah Weathersby
